Jean-François Favreau

Actor-singer, director and researcher

Theatre actor and director, born in Bastia (Corsica). During his studies (doctorate in Literature), he has worked first with image theatre – Compagnie La Machine (Paris) – joined Theater Tanto (Vienna, Austria) for Researches of a dog after Kafka.

In 2008, he joined The Grotowski Institute and Teatr ZAR (Wroclaw, Poland), with whom he performs, since 2008, the triptych Gospels of childhood (widely in Europe, India, Korea, and the USA).
In the frame of the Grotowski Institute’s activities, he took an active part in numerous research expeditions, namely concerning Latin singing in the Mediterranean area (Sardinia, Corsica, Sicily, Italian Peninsula…). In 2010, he created a research practical programme on traditional singing: In medias res.
Since 2006, he is as well an actor and collaborator of Sergei Kovalevich in the project “Resource Song of songs”, and occasionally with Alexis Forestier/Compagnie Les Endimanchés.

He staged texts of Witold Gombrowicz, Georg Büchner and Robert Walser, with La Machine, and with the company he created in 2006 in Paris, Théâtre de l’homme ivre.

Since 2009, he is the artistic director of the Site de pratiques théâtrales Lavauzelle.
